My work welcomes the viewer to explore a world of movement, through applying paint and texture on canvas using acrylic paint. As I interpret the South African landscape through vivid light and colours, I paint the mental images which appear as a product of my sensory experience of the world around me. My studies in photography have greatly assisted me in my abstract and expressionist interpretation, as the use of filters, blur and contrast, aid in redefining shape and form, and therefore perception. My paintings are intended to invoke a sense of abundance, connectivity, and joy. Through self-expression I hope to evoke both a sense of familiarity, through memory and shared experience, but also to inspire an ever-changing fresh perspective. I consider myself a conceptual artist, depicting my experience through the mind’s eye. My work hopes to elevate and expand one’s perception of reality, in capturing the essence of the South African landscape, and that unique experience.
